Serving Those Who Served

Honoring Service at Home and Abroad

When we honor veterans, we often think of the brave men and women who were sent overseas to fight. But many of those in uniform serve us here at home — like Staff Sgt. Diana Martinez of the California Air National Guard.

Diana is the sister of Cambridge Caregivers’ Marketing Specialist Alex Arriola and a member of the 163d Attack Wing, an elite unit in Riverside, Calif. The unit supports both global combat airpower and civil authorities during domestic crises such as wildfires. The unit also supplies the governor of California with trained forces for emergencies.

Diana is a dental technician who supports the Guard’s medical team. About five years ago, she was deployed to the border, where the Guard helped keep drugs and drug dealers from entering the U.S.

Before she joined the Air National Guard five years ago, Diana served in the California Army National Guard for 10 years. In 2018, she was called on to help with rescue efforts after mudslides and floods plagued Montecito, Calif. (See a brief video of her in action here.)

Diana says she was motivated to join the military out of a desire to give back, inspired in part by her cousin, Juan, a Marine who served three tours in Iraq. When she’s not on deployment, she stays busy managing her small business, an eyelash extension salon.

At Cambridge Caregivers, honoring veterans and their stories is part of our mission. The company is an authorized provider for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which means qualifying veterans may be eligible to receive in-home care services at no cost through VA programs.
