Meet the Houston Team

Our new Houston area office is up and running! Cambridge Caregivers recently opened the new location to meet the growing demand for the Bellaire, River Oaks and Houston area. It’s the latest in a series of planned new locations in Texas and beyond.

We talked to our team, to hear how they’re bringing Cambridge Caregivers’ white glove service to the Houston area.

Please introduce yourselves and tell us what your role is.

I’m Mike Shorter, the community liaison. I’m the face of the Houston office. My role is to serve as a connector between our caregivers and nurses and the families that need our help. I’m the point of contact for the assisted living, independent living and other senior care communities in the area. I’m also working on the business-to-business (B2B) side as well — networking, joining the Chambers of Commerce in the area, just getting out there and shaking hands!

I’m Megan Guerrero, the office administrator. I’m wearing quite a few different hats while the office. I’m responsible for scheduling, interviewing applicants and orientation for new employees. A big focus right now is getting the office set up.

-Megan

The new office is located in Houston’s medical district. What’s the advantage of that?

Yes, we are right in the heart of the Medical District. We can see Houston Methodist Hospital right across the street from us.

-Megan

We’re in the center of Bel Air, in what’s called The Loop in Houston. We plan to connect with physicians, especially the concierge physicians in the area, so that we can serve people who need extra help after surgery or after a hospitalization.

The Dallas office of Cambridge Caregivers offers more than 40 different training modules every year to caregivers. Will you be able to offer the same training in Houston?

Yes, we are setting up an almost identical training room in Houston, with the same layout and equipment as the one in Dallas.  In fact, we just hosted our first orientation class a few weeks ago. Our newly hired caregivers walked out with hands-on training in transfer and using a gait belt. These are skills that the caregivers use to help a client out of a bed into a wheelchair, in a way that’s safe for the caregiver and the client.  Good training is a way of ensuring that our new employees are prepared to walk into someone’s home and handle any situation that comes up.

Tell us a little about yourselves. What do you do when you’re not working?

I’ve been with Cambridge for two years. I’m originally from Corpus Christi, then was in Dallas for about 12 years. I spent a long time being a caregiver. I do not have any children, but I do have a cat! Right now, I’m breathing and sleeping work.

Outside of work, I spend most of my time being a dad to my two kids. Also, I love tech stuff, food and traveling. I was born and raised in Chicago, but Houston has always been my second home. Recently, I moved back to Houston. I interviewed with a lot of different companies and turned down a few offers. Then I met Megan and Ernie Cote, Cambridge Caregivers’ COO. I just loved everything about the company. I’m happy to be here!

I’m glad we’ve had a chance to introduce ourselves, because we are just not an 800 number. We’re real people! When you call our office, you will talk to one of us.
