Elevating Care in Houston

Training That Makes a Difference

Cambridge Caregivers has always believed that high-quality care begins with high-quality training. As our Houston office continues to grow, we’re investing in the ongoing education of our caregiving team—because when caregivers feel supported, prepared and valued, the clients they serve benefit.

Recently, two of our Dallas-based leaders traveled to Houston to support caregiver/trainers TeAndra and Stephanie as they led the Manchester Living Institute Advanced Caregiving Course. This hands-on training is designed to reinforce essential skills, reinforce best practices, and empower caregivers to provide the highest standard of compassionate care.

“This course helps our caregivers refresh and improve their skills,” said Mona Duty, Cambridge Caregivers’ HR/Training Development Specialist.

“The overall objective is setting up our staff and caregivers for success as we serve our clients. When caregivers know they are equipped and supported, they show up with confidence, and our clients feel that.”

As experienced caregivers, trainers TeAndra and Stephanie brought real-world insight to the scenarios and demonstrations. Mona and Paige Boyett, HR Director, were on hand to answer questions and provide support. Houston Office Administrator Megan Guerrero also pitched in and served as proctor.

In attendance were several of our dedicated caregivers, all of whom play an important and trusted role in the lives of the seniors and families they support.

Topics included driving safety, meal preparation, client communication, and navigating a range of day-to-day care situations. Caregivers also refreshed clinical skills such as blood pressure and pulse oximeter checks and practiced using Hoyer lifts and gait belts to safely and respectfully assist clients with mobility challenges. The group also reviewed emergency response procedures for hurricanes, tornadoes, fire and gas leaks.

In addition to these practical skills, the training program emphasizes Cambridge’s values: respect, initiative, client service, technical excellence, compassion, teamwork, and professional growth.

The day ended with a hands-on learning game, called “Making Our Caregivers Indispensable” and designed by Regional Operations Director Tammy Hooker, which encouraged teamwork, problem-solving and encouragement between peers.

What sets Cambridge Caregivers apart is that this training isn’t a one-time onboarding event—it’s ongoing professional development. Caregivers are paid for the time they spend in training sessions. In addition to the Advanced Caregiving Course, caregivers participate in elective training and support programs, including ongoing quarterly dementia training, delivered by dementia expert Lilly Adrian, and monthly sessions on “Coping with Grief and Stress,” led by Dr. Tonya Cunningham.

The custom Advanced Caregiving Course was developed in 2024 to ensure a consistent high level of care, so that clients and their families can feel confident that every Cambridge caregiver who comes into their home will have the skills and the knowledge to make their lives better, and the ability to provide that care with respect and compassion.

“Since the Houston office opened in 2024, we’ve assembled a great team of caregivers,” said Megan Guerrero. “Those in attendance have already become truly indispensable to our clients. But we believe even the best caregivers deserve continued growth and support. Ongoing training helps caregivers feel confident, valued, and prepared—and that is exactly what our clients deserve.”

The Advanced Caregiving training also reflects our continued growth in the Houston region. As more families learn about Cambridge Caregivers’ concierge-level care, our Houston team is expanding—and we’re committed to ensuring that every caregiver who joins us receives exceptional training and support. Because when we invest in our caregivers, we strengthen the care we provide to every person, every day.
