Growing Roots in Houston

When Cambridge Caregivers opened its Houston office in 2024, the goal was clear: bring our exceptional, concierge-level in-home care to more families across Texas. Equally important was becoming part of the community — giving back, building connections, and serving as a resource for older adults and caregivers throughout the city.

In just a short time, the Houston team has done exactly that. From school supply drives to senior tech workshops, community outreach has become a natural extension of Cambridge’s caregiving approach.

School Supply Drive

In August, Community Liaison Shelley Kutina organized the Houston office’s first school supply drive, collecting donations for a nearby underserved elementary school. The drive gathered notebooks, crayons, notepads and other essentials to help local students start the school year ready to learn.

“This was one small way to give back to the community that’s given so much to us,” said Shelley.

Bingo for Seniors

In early October, the Houston team brought fun and laughter to West University Place Senior Services with a lively bingo event. Houston Office Administrator Megan Guerrero and Community Liaison Alex Cox-Cuzzi emceed, calling numbers and handing out prizes, snacks and brochures.

“It was a fun way to get the word out about Cambridge Caregivers,” said Megan. “We connected with a number of seniors and shared a lot of laughter.”

Alex also represented Cambridge Caregivers at two key professional and caregiver events: the CarePartners Fall Caregivers Conference on October 25 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and the Elder Service Provider Network (ESPN) EXPO on October 28 at United Way Houston.

At the CarePartners conference — presented in partnership with AARP Texas — Alex met dozens of family caregivers and professionals attending sessions on dementia care and caregiver stress. Alex also staffed a Cambridge Caregivers table at the ESPN EXPO, which brought together elder-care providers from across the city.

“Events like this remind me that caregiving is truly a team effort,” Alex said. “When professionals and families collaborate, everyone benefits.”

Tech for Seniors

In November, Cambridge Caregivers underwrote a Tech for Seniors workshop at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston, hosted by RK Media Services. Titled How to Customize Your iPhone, the session helped older adults update settings, change wallpaper, adjust text size and personalize ringtones and volume.

“Something as small as learning to use your phone more confidently can make a big difference in a senior’s daily life,” said Alex.

Deepening Community Connections

In one year, Cambridge Caregivers Houston has gone from “new in town” to an active, engaged community partner — reflecting Cambridge Caregivers’ deeper mission: to meet people where they are, not only in their homes but in their neighborhoods, community centers and lives.

“We’re proud of the care we deliver in Houston,” said Megan. “What really makes our work meaningful is the relationships we’re building — with families, local partners, and the wider community.”
