A Caregiver — and a Buddy
Sometimes, the best care looks a lot like two friends just taking a walk.
Caregiver Manager Christina Solis recently shared a small but significant moment between caregiver Taj and a client we’ll call Robert:
Recently, Taj and Robert were strolling through a mall, laughing, trading jokes, and getting in some light exercise. In fact, they were having so much fun that when Taj ran into an old friend, the friend asked, “Are you working? Or are you just hanging out?”
“Well, both,” Taj replied with a smile. “I’m working — but Robert is my buddy. We’re getting some exercise and just enjoying ourselves.”
That moment perfectly captures the heart of companion care at Cambridge Caregivers.
Robert’s family connected with Cambridge because he needed reliable transportation and someone to help him stay active, engaged, and safe. Robert has some mild mobility challenges, but he needed more than assistance. His busy family members wanted to make sure he had meaningful companionship — someone who would walk alongside him, encourage him, and share in the day. And that’s exactly what Taj has done.
Companion care requires a special kind of caregiver. It’s not only about being dependable. It’s about being personable. It’s about knowing how to start a conversation, how to make someone laugh, and how to turn an ordinary outing into something that feels natural and joyful.
Christina heard this story while making regular rounds in the field. She visits clients and caregivers to observe how each match works. When she heard about Taj and Robert’s mall outing — and the friend’s confusion — she wasn’t surprised.
“Taj is well liked wherever he goes,” Christina said. “He’s approachable and friendly and able to talk to anyone.”
That ability to connect is what makes companion care so meaningful for our clients. At Cambridge Caregivers, we understand that care takes many forms. For some, it means hands-on physical support. For others, it means steady, compassionate end-of-life care. And for clients like Robert, it means having a buddy who helps make each day brighter.
