Caregiving for a loved one is an emotional, physical and financial commitment that demands immense strength and resilience. Online Support Communities
There are many online communities and support groups that family caregivers can tap into from the comfort of their homes, including:
- Caregiver Action Network (CAN): Offers forums, resources, and a help desk for support.
- AARP Family Caregivers Discussion Group: A private Facebook group and space for caregivers to share advice and encouragement.
Education and Training
We know the importance of education and training for our professional caregiving team; those are just as important for family caregivers. Some resources include:
- Family Caregiver Alliance: offers online courses on dementia care, self-care, and stress management
- American Red Cross Family Caregiver Program: Provides training on various caregiving skills.
Disease-specific Nonprofits
Many nonprofits related to diseases or chronic conditions o:er resources for family caregivers. Here are just a few examples:
- Alzheimer’s Association: Offers support groups, education, and a 24/7 helpline for those caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or other dementias.
- Parkinson’s Foundation: Offers resources, support, and educational materials for family caregivers of individuals with Parkinson’s disease, including online and in-person caregiver support groups and a helpline.
