Long-Term Care Policy
What Is Long-Term Care?
A basic definition: Long-term care is any kind of service a person might need if they are unable to care for themselves, due to illness, disability or Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.
Several different services fall under the umbrella of “long-term care.”
- A nursing home or assisted living community
- In-home nursing care or non-medical care
- An adult day care center providing nursing care, therapeutic care, social and educational activities, and/or supervision
- Other services such as hospice care, respite care (to give a family caregiver time off), care after a hospital stay or help with household chores.
Long-term care insurance may pay for all or some of the above services.
